As part of being named the Outstanding Graduating Student Leader by the College of Engineering bioengineering major Annicka Carter gave the student address during the COE convocation.

Annicka has demonstrated leadership in variety of activities including, over the last year, being the chair of the bioengineering Undergraduate Student Advisory Council (USAC). She and the many talented members of USAC have planned and implemented activities such as the bioengineering leadership retreat, a series of monthly lunches with professors, retention, promotion and tenure review of faculty and most recently, an ethics event.

She is also a member of ASUU by virtue of being a COE Assembly Representative and in that capacity she has written over 15 bills championing engineering student groups looking for funding and she has sponsored each of the bills.

During her undergraduate tenure, Annicka has been employed as a Biomedical Engineering Research Associate at Intermountain Healthcare, providing a broad range of patient and research services as well as authoring research abstracts and manuscripts.

Patrick Tresco, chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, said “I have been impressed with Annicka from day one. She has been a fantastic member of our student body and I am excited to watch her career develop in the coming years. We will miss her.”

Annicka’s long-term goal is to conduct research in translational biology directly with physicians and patients. She has recently chosen to attend Rice University in Houston to obtain her Ph.D. in bioengineering with a focus on the cardiovascular system.
